In 2002 we were living the “Dream”. I was a network administrator which was a “respectable” job that paid well enough for our needs. We had three lovely boys. We were home owners in a rural, friendly neighborhood not too close to the “big” city, but not too far away either. We were even in the process of building a literal white picket fence. We were in our early 30’s and we had “won” at life. We were content. I think that was when we first realized our mistake. Contentment is a flat-line on the excitement monitor…if you tarry there, your soul atrophies. We succeeded too early. We achieved THE dream only to find we were still sleeping. Monique figured it out sooner than I did. She began seeking for something, struggling to escape the confines of our perfect life. Looking back at it now I really can’t say if Monique discovered Cuddle Parties, or if they discovered her. If someone were to show me that the entire concept of Cuddle Party was given to Reid for the express purpose of Monique someday stumbling upon it, I would not be surprised. I would just shrug, nod to anyone near me and say “Yeah, I can see that.” Not because I am incredibly gifted at the art of understatement (although I am) but because in my twenty plus years with this incredible woman she has made me believe in magic. She has proven to me time and time again that the only things that are beyond your reach are the things you don’t stretch for; that obstacles are not barricades; that “impossible” is an imaginary word. Most importantly, that you don’t have to believe in magic, you only have to believe in yourself…then the magic happens. So to those of you, like Monique who have achieved what they thought they were supposed to want and found something missing, you have stumbled onto this book for a reason. Discover it.
